coaches, highly recommend reading @HarryAlford3’s whole thread. besides that black box you posted in june and the long statement you put out, what are you actually doing to promote equality!?!? https://twitter.com/harryalford3/status/1294801549785538560
i’m asking this to coaches in north east ohio especially, because as the only middle school team IN THE CITY OF CLEVELAND, these boys were told they don’t belong on a lacrosse field.
true story. 2019 season, during a playoff game in the CYO league, players on the other team told players from Urban Community School that they don’t belong, that lacrosse isn’t for them, to go play basketball.
we handled our business that day and the other team went home with an L. but we were stuck with that experience. since the game was 45 mins outside of the CITY OF CLEVELAND, we had a lot of time to talk about racism and prejudice on the ride back.
but the difference between my boys IN CLEVELAND and kids from most NEO suburbs, is my players live this every day. they don’t have a choice. that’s why the conversations around race and equity need to happen with every team, on every level, no matter how uncomfortable it may be
coaches, stop talking the talk and start walking the walk. if you need help getting the conversation started with your team, please do not hesitate to reach out. DM or at mburke@ohiocity.org
and if you want to support the @IRQ_Nationals, equality in the sport, and growing the game IN CLEVELAND, stay tuned, we have something cooking!
also need to give all the love to @TheKingVike, @DSheridan8, @mattbertrams22, @TKeeley25, @CoachRydquist, @CLECoachFink, Kim Russell, Dave Blue, Jim Scully, Tim Weber, and many others for their support of @clecommunitylax over the years. we are extremely blessed #growthegame
