While we’re here let’s talk just a little about a concept that’s sufficiently popular it made it into the Mental Health Act review: EPISTEMIC INJUSTICE.

Broadly speaking, one way this manifests is by ignoring testimony you’ve solicited from ppl telling you you’re harming them.

Not a little ironically, my funded PhD is largely on this topic, especially as it manifest through forms of systematic and structural ignorings—both of testimony, but also of harms, consequences, and also expertise!

The endless solicitation of views in response to already having been told a set of views you find discomfiting or inconvenient—“we’ll run a survey on that!”—is a very common form of looking like you’re doing sth about marginalisation/harm while doing actually very little

To be clear: I won’t be attending the @UKRI_News meeting because I am experiencing such severe burnout, as a disabled/chronically ill and ND person who got suspected COVID and who is supposed to be doing a PhD PT and running a PT business, I can’t. Doing so endangers my health.

So while I appreciate we were going to send @UKRI_News a second letter but didn’t—we were an unpaid collective of disabled and chronically ill PhD students trying to survive A PANDEMIC w all kinds of other stuff from visas to TERFs to poverty etc—we shouldn’t have needed to.

Someone somewhere should be ashamed that it has been the most junior and most marginalised spelling out the writing on the wall it’s taken SIX MONTHS for an institution to sufficiently prove to itself, not least bc I promise you we have borne the costs on our bodies and persons
