I often try and get to the source of disagreements, rather than stop at where they come to the surface.

Leftists are generally people that believe either
1) people are divided into good/evil, or
2) human nature is malleable and with the right system one can make people "good"
Those on the right seem to believe that people have in them both good and evil, and one must take care to strengthen the "good".

And that this is built in human-nature, and is irrespective of the system we live in.

Systems can only strengthen "good", not eliminate "evil"
Thats why socialism, where human nature is changed to be that "everyone becomes altruistic", seems plausible to leftists, but totally absurd to everyone else.
Its why leftists judge those that disagree as evil. They judge the person not the deed, unlike right that judges the deed not the person.

Leftists will excuse terrible actions if they deem the person "good", while condemning for almost nothing if they deem the person "evil".
Just my 2c. Trying to make sense of seemingly decent people supporting terrible actions and ideas.
