I quarantined at the Novotel Collins St, and my experience was different from what is being said on #4corners
Right off the plane, we were told to wear a mask, was even told in transport van that they would stop the car if we took our masks off #4corners
We were given gloves upon arrival at the hotel (as in, right at the entrance of the hotel, before we even got in the lift) #4corners
I think the guests are also responsible for the covid spread: welcome pack from Novotel/Vic Health said we cannot open room door unless to get food or place rubbish out (which we followed) #4corners
This is to say I never saw guards asleep, because I never left my room, but there were at least three guards within sight of my door #4corners
Our last stop before going to the room, after checking in at the desk, was with airport/airline staff who briefed us on what we could and could not do while in quarantine. They were very helpful, was able to answer questions and concerns #4corners
The staff (who I assume were properly briefed) pressed the lift buttons for us, and from memory we were met at the lift on our floor and guided to our room (can't remember if it was guard or staff) #4corners
The only complaint I had with our time in quarantine was they delivered a couple of meals late (first world problems, I know) #4corners
BTW, I don't mean this thread to be a political statement of any sort, I just wanted to point out that I didn't see any of the issues re the guards. I don't know if they were trained properly or not, didn't really interact with guards much #4corners
I know that I myself took precautions for myself: mask on, sanitizer on the ready, not leaving my room. I felt (still do) that I had a responsibility to my fellow Melburnians to not catch and/or spread covid #4corners
The hotel (Novotel) had welcome packs for guests with an info sheet (what you can/can't do) as well as masks and sanitizer, came in useful two weeks later when leaving to go home #4corners
