Can you imagine if all of the largest, most prominent accounts discussing the US on Twitter were all non-Americans, living outside the US? And they got verified, quoted, and signal boosted, while the accounts of US citizens living in the US were constantly banned?
That's what it's like being Chinese on Twitter.

@TwitterSupport is *openly* bias- there's no other explanation for continuing to verify cam girls and not someone running some of the largest English social media accounts in Mainland China commenting on tech and life here.
You see me interact with and debunk Western journalists and "China Watchers"- you see they either ignore me, or are smugly dismissive. What Chinese living in China have to say about China is irrelevant. They are the self-appointed experts. This is the "truth" you demand- and get.
I have lost countless opportunities and constantly have to defend my authenticity. When I am proved authentic, but non-ideologically compliant I am attacked, excluded, deplatformed.
I am not the "good Chinese" people want- I do not obediently confirm what they have been told.
So now a White guy comes along who actually is a fraud, someone who willing, in yellowface as Cantonese- MY PEOPLE to tell Westerners a simple, unnuanced narrative that appeals to their deep-felt white supremacist belief that well "really colonialism was ok", so he gets a pass.
No consequences, a full-throated defense of the right of Westerners to not only speak over local voices in the Global South, but to put on a minstrel show, play Charlie Chan and pretend to be one of us. No matter how you feel about HK it is spectacularly racist to defend this.
I face greater consequences for being real- and proving it, than this fraud will ever face for engaging in public yellowface, knowing full well he could just cut and run and leave others to bear the consequences for his actions, all to masturbate to his own white savior complex.
I'm very sorry if people in another part of the World don't say what you think they should or don't say it as well as you think you could- but that does not give you the right to speak over us, for us, or instead of us. Want to help? Speak up for our right to be heard.
