While every poll says #Georgia is a toss up, pundits don’t believe. But history shows things move quickly. I moved to GA in Fall 2002, to a blue state. Just a few weeks later, it all changed on one election night. Rs have controlled virtually everything ever since. #gapol 1/8
Now the GA GOP has anointed the first Qanon member of Congress - doesn't exactly scream mainstream or the future. Nor does the demographic composition of R electeds, which just as easily could be from 1920 as 2020. This is in a state that will be majority-minority by 2028. 2/8
Indeed, a statesman like @senatorisakson could never even make it out of an R primary were he starting his career today. His moderation and ability to compromise would be weaponized against him by someone willing to tattoo MAGA to their forehead. 3/8
And sadly COVID-19 continues to ravage our state, as leaders refuse to adopt common sense mask rules embraced in even MS, AL and TX. GA was last to close and first to open. .On two recent days, COVID-19 killed a Georgian on average every 15 minutes or less. 4/8
Meanwhile, @georgiademocrats have a deep bench that looks like GA. Women, people of color and the LGTBQ community are not only welcome, they are leaders. One of @joebiden’s top surrogates @KeishaBottoms will be featured at #DNC2020, along w/ @staceyabrams & @samforgeorgia. 5/8
Back in '05, I was COS for the late Robert Brown during the first session GOP controlled state govt. Back then, Rs were all for voting by mail. The real "threat" were mobs voting without ID. So voting restrictions, “tort reform” and a litany of regressive bills were passed. 6/8
Will never forget @SJzamarripa warning Rs after a bill stripping immigrants of rights was passed that while they may have prevailed that day, a time would come when the children of those immigrants could vote. Well Sam, a 3 year old in 2005 is 18 now. 7/8
GA will return to the ideals of Carter and Nunn, Baker and Darden in Nov. And we'll finish the job in 2022. And when
