The #alevels2020 anger and debate has been almost exclusively about the unfairness of an algorithm. Let's maintain this anger to tackle the source of the algorithm's data: systemic and long-term educational disadvantage
Every year, results show as many (/more) disadvantaged students being let down by a system and surroundings that don't let them express their full potential. A normal year of exams wouldn't have been different overall, some individuals would just have been in place of others
It doesn't mean this year's debacle doesn't matter. Seeing the disparities so blatantly expressed adds to the level of outrage and it hurts to know that some who would have excelled now didn't get the chance. But let's not pretend status quo was ok
