HUGO LLORIS 5.5

Hugo Lloris is a strange player.
He's been at Spurs for a long time now and is a top keeper in the premier league. His reflexes and shot stopping are second to none, but he is also prone to some of the biggest gaffes you'll see.

This often means that he is overlooked by some when it comes to being an FPL asset, and Spurs defensive record last season was nothing to write home about.
But let's have a look at some numbers and make some comparisons.

When we look at Hugo's numbers over his time at Spurs, we see that he consistently over performs when it comes to shot stopping.
In 7 seasons he has conceded 33 fewer goals than expected (Source: OPTA).

But what does this mean for us as FPL managers?

Well let's have a look at the numbers:

In games started last season, Hugo averaged 4.67 points per game(PPG).
Value punt McCarthy (4.5) averaged 3.71 PPG. Pope(5.5) the highest scoring keeper last season only managed 4.47 PPG (Source: Fantasy football hub)
Shocked? I was.

It's not just points either, if we continue the comparison between Pope and Lloris:

Bonus Points Per Game
Lloris 0.62 Pope 0.61

Saves Per Game
Lloris 3.86 Pope 3.16

CS Per Game
Lloris 0.28 Pope 0.29

Now I know the sample size is smaller for Lloris than Pope, but the numbers really are closer than I thought they'd be!

Additional factors to consider.

Poch really liked to play out from the back, and Hugo didn't seem comfortable playing this way. Now for better or for worse Mou is in charge and plays a different way, which seems to protect Hugo a little more.

It's also worth noting that the signing of Højbjerg could solidify the defence a little more. Though this remains to be seen.

In conclusion, I began research for this thread thinking Lloris definitely wasn't an option. I still don't, for me with what we currently know about Spurs he's too expensive.
But, his numbers are good and if we make a good start to the season he might be one to keep an eye on.
