Icarus Girl by Helen Oyeyemi. Based in London and Nigeria, this book is about a highly imaginative girl, Jess who struggles to understand her own potent magic of self intuition. It tastes like toasted marshmallow and strong hints of bravery
This one had my head in a tizzy for WEEKS😍😍 THE DAEVABAD TRILOGY by SA Chakraborty @SAChakrabooks about Nahri the feistiest, coolest girl in that multiverse. The books taste like mysterious sundaes on fire and in fancy glasses cos plastic would melt 🔥
Children of Blood and Bone & Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi @tomi_adeyemi about Zelie a spunky rebel mage who takes no shit from her oppressors and tries to protect her people. Satisfyingly tastes like pure Goth spirit and smoky coconut 🖤❤️
Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi @azemezi and it’s about Ada a spirit child who struggles with her internal selves. This is a contemplative and profound story so be mindful when reading. It tastes like summer ice cream with your doll friends
Love in Colour by Bolu Babalola @BeeBabs which is several stories about women duhhh and it’s a romantic fantasy that binds you in a hopeful embrace with your own power ladies. Tastes like a bouquet of all them delicious fruits stolen from your mean neighbour’s garden!
Winged Histories by #SofiaSamatar set in beautiful Olondria (I wanna live there) about a soldier, a poet, a socialite and a scholar on different sides of the same war. When I say these women crank it up, I mean they CRANK IT UP. Tastes of female intellectual superiority mhmm 😋
Of course I was saving these awesomeness for last! AKATA WITCH & AKATA WARRIOR by Nnedi Okorafor @Nnedi about Sunny the whip smart, best footballer witch I know as she learns her craft and navigates friendship and love. Tastes like all of Sunny’s sweet cravings mashed together
