Hello everyone! As with the legion, I thought it would be a good idea to break down the various comics of the TMNT to help out new fans who want to jump in, but are scared due to the various publications and universes! Let's jump into it!
The original 62 issues (1984-1993) are divided into 2 sets of collections; the Ultimate collection (hc,tpb, colored etc) focuses on the Eastman/Laird stories, while the Classics collect the issues from the other writers/artists who wrote the title prior to City at War
Another book of Note is Tales of the TMNT (1987), with this book running concurrently with the original, with the purpose of being the continuity book, filling in the gaps during the time the various creative teams were writing the main title, with about 77 issues being released
Vol 2 was launched in 1993 shortly after City at War, however, this run only lasted 13 issues as the series had started declining, and Mirages publishing office was shut down due to flooding.
Perhaps the most infamous run of the turtles is the third volume, being published at image, and introducing radical changes to the status quo, for nearly 20 years, this run was left in limbo, until it was brought back in color as Urban legends, with an actual ending for the book
I can't bring up ninja turtle comics without bringing up Archie can I? The Archie Tmnt Adventures comic started the trend of tie in comics for the television shows that would become a staple for the series,
Vol 4 of Tmnt was the final one published by mirage before the Viacom buyout, with mirage being able to publish 18 issues a year, but since the buy out, there's really only been 2 released, with 32 the most recent issue.
I hope this helps people out who were confused about the original mirage comics, probably tomorrow, I will break down idws history to help new fans get into those comics
