Competition in Pakistan Army, a short #Thread:

The selection rate at ISSB varies from arm to arm. Although there is no difference between methodology of selection, quantity selected from let's say a group of 120 kids:
- #PAF : 4 - 8
- #PakArmy : 14 - 22
- #PN : 8 - 12

There are specific arms such as Engineers & Doctors who get inducted via Integrated Courses (IC) as Short Service Comission & Technical Graduate Courses (TGC/TCC) as Regular Comission.

TGC criteria involves:
- Aptitude test
- High Merit
- NUST test
- 5 yrs cadetship

All arms touch down at common training institution i.e, PMA, Kakul. Some lucky ones spend 6 months, some 1 yr & most 2 yrs.

They're grilled extensively in #Military:
- Academics (Cert under NUST)
- Physical (Daily mile runs, exercises etc)
- Psychological

After passing out cadets become officers whose clock resets as per new rank and unit training begins involving on ground experience including teachers from #Soldier to senior #Officers.

Passing out rate from PMA is usually 65 - 82% rest are either relegated/withdrawn

In a few months basic course arrives where young officers are tested both militarily and their specific arms. Good grades include B+ and A(Alpha). Those securing them start forming better career path for themselves.

Fall out rate is ~ 35-50% & Alphas given to just 2-8%

They have to read atleast 12-14 Books + perform well above 80% in Physical and Combat efficiency tests.

Here the youngsters taste the first smack of professional competitiveness which resembles "Survival of the Fittest" but without compromising Integrity & camaraderie.

Then comes Mid-Career & Junior Staff Course where level of competition is raised to sharpen the peak.

They have to read 15-22 books military and technical. Plus secure at least 85% in Physical and Combat exams.

Fall out rate is ~65-75% with Alphas given to just 4-8%

After almost 8 years of service, being deployed to atleast 3 provinces including battlefield. The officers become eligible for Staff Course Entrance Exam (SCEE).

Just the exam includes 24 books + popular military books published old or new. News & Gen Knowledge is a must!

Selection is based on seats but yearly only less than 200 officers get selected. There are only 4 chances afterwards no matter how much decorated an officer is, if he cannot get pass the exam; he is barred. Other exams like Logistic & Intelligence staff are then offered.

Staff Course involves a gruelling 1 year in Quetta. Those who do well get good grades and recommendations. An Alpha in Staff Course is extremely rare (E.g, Gen Kiyani). Fall out rate is ~78-85%.

Those who secure a shade below B+ are considered part of fallout.

A Masters degree is awarded on graduation!

Officers go on Staff appointments & afterwards promoted if all goes well. Those who do well in command get selected for the coveted National Security War Course (NSWC) aka route to becoming a General (Master of War Strategy).

Only the cream of the crop reaches NDU & they're again grilled for almost 1 yr. They graduate with another Masters Degree. Fall rate is 85-92% (yep, go figure)

Those who developed the habit of reading & writing do good. Basically, no hardwork in NDU 😌
