Congrats and best of luck to all of the first year med students starting school in the coming weeks here on #medtwitter. Some quick thoughts for you all...
1. There a ton of different ways to learn medicine. Find what study strategies/materials work for you and stick with them. It’s easy to get caught up trying to find the “best” resources. Stick to the basics and of note, practice questions are your best friend.

2. Your life should not “end” when you get to med school. You will have more free time than you think you do to maintain your interests, hobbies, relationships, etc. Maintaining these will be critical to your success in school and beyond!
3. You will meet someone incredible people throughout med school. MAKE FRIENDS!!!
Branch out, get to know your classmates, and support one another! I love my med school friends dearly and talk to many of them daily

4. Don’t forget to call your family / friends to check in. They will miss you and may not understand the demands of your schedule early on. Nurturing your personal relationships is so important!
5. If you are having a hard time with something pertaining to school or your personal life, don’t be afraid to reach out to someone for help. Your peers, deans, instructors, etc all want you to succeed and want to support you as best they can along the way!
6. I want to reiterate point #3. Do your best to foster a collaborative / supportive learning environment. This was one of the reasons my experience at @JeffersonUniv was so fun

7. Don’t forget to harvest & refine interpersonal skills you can’t learn from studying medicine such as: communication, professionalism, compassion, empathy, etc.
8. Your ability to work with others and communicate with your patients will play a major role in their care and is as important as your clinical knowledge IMO.
9. Do your best to stay present, have fun and enjoy the ride!!!
