I keep posting about all the weird/funny things seven says or does. Here's a serious (slightly) thread on online classes and what the shift has meant to a kid like him - social but generally introverted. The first sign was when I asked him if he missed school and he said no.
Then he added, he liked going to school from home. The teachers and students are kinder given that both parties are navigating an entire new medium of teaching. The hours are shorter minus travel. Most of all, from what I sense is bec he's now in control of his social interaction
He's growing a cocoon around himself of physical comfort of home, being around me, not having to wear a uniform, and the luxury of free time to explore hobbies. There's homework, but he now isn't having to tackle that after a long day at school + after school physical activities
Our schools are perhaps designed to reward the loudest, most extroverted child. But now, with them occupying tiny windows on a screen, the quietest are called forward to represent. There's no bullying or childish taunts under watchful eyes of parents and teachers.
Perhaps the physical social interactions that build up a child's character through diverse experiences is missing and I don't know how that will affect kids in the longer run.
