It’s kinda funny sometimes the reactions of industry people and horseplayers when I call people out on horse racing Twitter for out right being racist and/or saying racist things
The thing is tho ...
It may sound a bit harsh but when you really think about it if I didn’t say anything what would all of the horseplayers say or do?
I guess from my experience in life that if I didn’t stand up for myself or what I deeply believe in ... nobody else would.
As a country we should be at the point things like racism, sexism l, and fascism should not be tolerated across the board. No exceptions. Full stop
Those of you that know me understand that I live for my family and especially my children. I want my children to live in a better society than what we are right now. They deserve it just like everyone else’s children
If that means I piss off people and/or get shunned by people or entities in the racing industry than so be it. It’s to important to me as a person. The experience I have had and continue to have merit the kind of response I have
I think those in racing have a lot to learn about black people and our experiences if they choose to. The desire dictates the sincerity of caring about issues regarding race and the horse racing industry as a whole
People in horse racing, I have found over the years, have no idea what it’s like to be black in this country. At times it can fill you with anger or sadness
I think the worst part of that is horse racing people don’t care. To be honest more of them don’t care than those that do
It’s okay to feel uncomfortable about this subject. I do t blame anyone for not knowing what it’s like or how it feels from my perspective. I wouldn’t ever expect anyone to know other than those dealing with it
It’s clear that some people I see in and around horse racing Twitter automatically take offense to any insinuation that people in racing and people that have the common interest could be racist. Trying to avoid the fact that some people are for one reason or another
A lot of this is why I started doing #AskABlackDude. I felt it gave a way for some people I may or may not interact with to ask questions to understand from the perspective of a black person. There just aren’t that many in horse racing anymore
With all that said I wish you all could hear me saying this rather than see me saying this.
