If D/LF didn't want negative engagement they shouldn't have rushed out a shitty product. Now that it's out, the snake is eating itself. The only option they have for non-controversial content is sucking the OT's stale dick into a dusty oblivion.

They will receive "negative engagement" on every other attempt at pushing the franchise forward now that TROS has broken the trust of the majority of new fans. But they need to push through that regardless and make content that isn't so afraid of itself.
Ben Solo content rumors? Finally! Took you long enough! But we're not going to be happy with it until you fix the mess JJerrio left you with, and you need to put on your big boy pants and accept that. If all you have is remembering the past eventually that's where you'll be left.
I'm glad Mando is good and new and bold but if you take that as a sign to make every new story some spinoff of Mando then you've learned nothing. You need to push boldly in several new directions. You can't just find one new thing people like and stagnate until we get sick of it.
High Republic is a good move! A vast new era with new characters and a fresh story that doesn't rely on OT worship. I hope it does well, and I hope that it brings more new eras, more new characters, more new ideas. I hope to take this as a sign of what's to come, above all else.
Star Wars needs to move forward. OT worship has been the albatross of its storytelling for too long. We (generally) all love the OT, but the story of Star Wars is more than loving the OT. It's sad that the saga's end couldn't see past that.
Some may never forgive it, and they would be right to do so. But D/LF must recognise that when it comes to "negative engagement", they must lie in the bed they made.
This doesn't mean doubling down on TROS. It means if they want to tell an ST-focused story, they need to accept that it will be controversial at best and recognize that it isn't the fans' fault for being upset, it's their fault for releasing something that broke so much trust.
On a very general scale, TROS' issue is that instead of writing a story for fans of the ST/new canon, they catered to fans of the OT/Legends canon. Which those fans largely won't wholly accept because it doesn't also come with the characters of OT/Legends, it's just flavoring.
And then the fans of the ST/new canon are burned, because it felt like the toys being snatched from us and given back to the previous story generation, because they couldn't just go reread Dark Empire and let the new kids have their fun.
So, when it comes to making any new ST content, the message needs to be "you're right, we're sorry, here you go, you can play with the toys for a bit" not "um no we never took the toys, and actually you should feel happy and satisfied with the toys being taken why are you mad"
So yeah we're mad at Ben Solo content rumors even though we contradictorarily want new Ben content; thanks to the shitty, rushed out product that marks the gravestone of the new canon, we expect you to screw it up. Prove us wrong.
