<Thread> The new postmaster general has a massive conflict of interest. Louis DeJoy still holds $30 M in stock in XPO. This should be enough to disqualify him but XPO is more than just a USPS contractor, it looks like a direct competitor. @narativ_live
2. See they can reach 99% of U.S. zip codes.
3. And they ship directly from Chinese warehouses.
4. Before the pandemic things were looking uneasy for XPO's future prospects.
5. Now the current CEO says e-commerce is "on fire" and the company predicts that trend will continue.
6. All of that could be even more lucrative if the USPS is turned into a shadow of its current self or wound down completely. Louis DeJoy's $30 M would surely be worth more. Does XPO's staff know their company's big shareholder is standing in the way of free and fair elections?
7. DeJoy's wife is Polish born and a former U.S. ambassador to Estonia under George W. Bush. She's awaiting confirmation of her new post in Ottawa.
8. They live an understated life befitting two public servants. Just kidding. This is their home in an uber-affluent part of North Carolina. The staircase is painted with 24-carat gold leaf and is reminiscent of a French castle.
9. They also have a foundation which pays for the upkeep of Mike Pence's home. The VP's residence in Washington is another good example of chateuesque architecture.
10. It made me wonder about DeJoy's heritage. Google says otherwise but historians will tell you that "de" before a last name denotes nobility as in de Gaulle or DeVos. We can't say for sure though if our Louis is descendant of nobility, French or otherwise.
11. We really are so fortunate that all these people of extraordinary wealth are so vested in public service. Things surely have changed since 1789. <END>
