Also while I'm waking and baking
it's weird, or perhaps not, that so many alt right hold up Sparta as some sort of ideal, or worse still...ideal of feminism.
Like...no? I mean for the time period, and DEPENDING on which time period we're talking about...they could own property

Like...no? I mean for the time period, and DEPENDING on which time period we're talking about...they could own property
and hold their own money (depending on the time period here) and negoiate contracts but that was due to their society being a brutal slave state that held an entire population in *brutal* absolute servitude with no hope of release (they did sometimes free people but you couldn't
earn/buy your freedom as one could in other Greek city states...
so they could uphold home and hearth while the males waged war elsewhere. And even the idea of the Spartan uber warrior is weird. More than half the time anyone asked them for help they were celebrating some

religious festival and couldn't manage to come. Their Helot slaves outnumbered them, and so they were constantly on guard for slave uprisings.

But idk, when I find cultures like that interesting, I try to get to know who they really were.
There ARE instances where I like some forms of mythos better. But, that's

okay too provided I know it's mythos.
I like the comic book versions of Norse mythology a lot more than the Nordic verses and mythos, because it's more fun and translated for my era. But I don't pretend Thor of the comics is Thor the god some people still believe in.

The Battle of Thermopylae though was truly fucking badass and epic and lives on through time for a reason.
However the '300' ignores the slave shield bearers and hairdressers that also fought and the Greeks that didn't bail. Still I think the estimate (AFAIK) was like...
