Random, but I'd like to tell you about my professor at university, who was Iranian originally.

After attending his lectures and lab sessions for a year and a bit, I still didn't know him. He was a very quiet chap, softly spoken, and polite.

For this story, it's important to bear in mind I was still a dude at the time.

So, during a lab session, I'm sat next to him on my laptop. He leans over and points at my tattoos. He then sais: "You know, if you had these back where I come from, Iran, you would be killed."

That was the longest sentence I had ever heard him say directly to me. I was taken aback and saw tears in his eyes. All I could say was "...really?!"

He nodded, then said: "but here, this is a fine, great country. Here we can be free and be ourselves."

At that last sentence, he took my hand in his and gave me a very wistful look. He then went back to his computer without another word.

With all this talk on migration, I just thought this might be relevant and interesting.

It's pretty much just freedom to live, be happy and be themselves migrants want. We just want to give our freedoms away.
