when our university inevitably shuts down, all i can think about is: WHERE WILL I LIVE?? i understand the calls for closing down campuses, and i’m begging you all to include -funds for those without stable housing- as one of your covid related demands. THREAD.
there are many of us who came to college and received stable sources of food and housing provided by our universities/financial aid. there MUST be a way to demand justice around covid without leaving behind those of us who literally!! need!! housing!!
in addition, many students relied on college as a refuge from unsafe/unhealthy home environments—going back home may be a frightening option to some students.
and the answer is NOT “appeal to stay on campus, where u depend on public bathrooms/showers and public dining halls for food”

the answer is give those of us without financially stable situations the MONEY to live off campus.
PLEASE remember those of us who rely on our universities for stable and equitable housing in your calls for justice related to Covid.
i am begging you all from unc, especially those with large platforms in the covid justice dialogue, to PLEASE retweet this. i’m worried if this point is not brought up now, by the time campuses close, it will leave many of us stranded with nowhere to live.
please tag anyone you know who goes to unc/has a large platform to bring up this point. this is our only hope!!!
also: for those of you who are in decision making bodies on campus (organizing/activist/equity groups): PLEASE include directly impacted folx in your decision making.
