Cambridge Uni summary: If you're appeal is successful BEFORE places are full...you're IN for 2020! If appeal is successful AFTER places are full...you're IN for 2021. If you do Autumn exams in Oct & get the grades...you're IN for 2021! READ THIS! https://www.cam.ac.uk/coronavirus/news/statement-on-2020-a-level-results-and-cambridge-university-admissions
imo VALID reasons for not honouring all offers. 1) Cambridge gave 4500 offers for 3450 places. 2) offering all honours for 2020 will mean too many students to ensure social distancing. 3) Large admission for 2020 WILL negativity impact 2021/2022/2023 cohort!
Do not get it twisted this is NOT the solution for Govs mistakes! Appeals still need to made, unfair exams may still need to be taken. BUT this response 1) Sets a Centralised stance that all Colleges will follow and 2) Rectifies any straight up rejections... better than what was
Valid concerns from students still remain: 1) Why can’t Cambridge (one of the richest unis) pool money to house the extra 1000 students? 2) This changes nothing as kids still need to appeal to an algorithm that failed them! 3) How will Cambridge ensure fairness for next cohorts?
