/6: If Sean O’Malleys injury from last night was the same one he had in his fight against Andre Soukhamthath, there are a few things to consider: After the original injury, Sean was booked to compete seven months later. So theoretically, this won’t keep him out long. However,
/6: we have no way of knowing how he would have performed on his leg at that time, because USADA kept him from competing for two years after the initial injury. He competed in grappling during the suspension, but I think striking is the primary concern here. Also,
/6: if this is a recurring injury, it could be worse this time. Moreover, O’Malley had a hip surgery for a severe torn labrum during his USADA suspension. They had to dislocate his hip, shave down his hip bone, and re-attach the labrum. He also
/6: mentioned having “a bunch of” undisclosed injuries he was rehabbing during his suspension. Sean O’Malley is only 25-years-old. He’s extremely talented but his frame could be both a gift and a curse. I’m not certain his build is the cause, but it’s within reason
/6: to consider the possibility that he could be injury prone. We’ve seen great talents like Cain Velasquez and Dominick Cruz be derailed by constant injuries. We’ve also seen thin fighters like Corey Hill and Anderson Silva break their own legs while throwing kicks.
/6: Hopefully this doesn’t become a theme with Sean O’Malley. Because I think he is an obvious talent with a lot to offer our sport—both competitively and from an entertainment perspective.
