just got these in the mail yesterday. this is the first time I’ve gotten anything and everyone in my household has already casted their votes for markey but i just wanted to point some things out (1/9)
joe kennedy’s flyer states “new ideas, new leadership, new vision” but fails to state what any of those are but lays out basic points that all democratic candidates should be pushing for in the first place: affordable healthcare, civil/equal rights, and a better economy (2/9)
ed markey states more specific points: holding police officers accountable, opposing a militarized police force, ending racial bias in healcare, COVID relief, eliminating for profit prisons, and providing internet access to low income k-12 (3/9)
the layouts of these flyers alone show kennedy’s ability to run off his name and little need to actually put his priorities down on paper and simply states “change you can count on” but does make what/why i can count on him clear (4/9)
if i was an undecided voter and this was all i had to go off of there would be a few possible conclusions: 1. he’s a Kennedy he has my vote, 2. Markey lays out what he’s fighting for specifically I’ll vote for him, 3. he’s younger and said new leadership so he has my vote (5/9)
maybe there are a few other conclusions but that’s what i have so far. It says that kennedy’s flyer was paid for by the new leadership pac not by any candidate or candidates committee so it’s unclear if Kennedy himself had any input on the flyer but it is important to note (6/9)
that this is all potential voters are seeing and brings back the reoccurring question of why joe kennedy is running (even before i knew more about markey and started volunteering i still wondered this just want to make that clear to anyone who wants to call me out) (7/9)
I will say that this is all I’ve gotten in the mail on both candidates so far i live in Dorchester and in this election with many already getting their ballot it’s so important for people to be aware of who’s running earlier. we are the biggest neighborhood in Boston & (8/9)
shouldn’t only be given materials 17 days before the election from the candidates. not everyone is eager to pick up phones, or may not even do their own research, so sometimes you must reach constituents where they are. please hare if you’ve received any info on both sooner (9/9)
