I see responses to tweets about Chicago cops brutalizing #BlackLivesMatter protesters where people say things about how they "thought Chicago was run by democrats".

It is & has been for decades, Chicago is a great example of how the Democrats aren't who you think they are.
Chicago, a city governed by democrats, has one of the most brutal unaccountable police departments in the US. For decades, Democrats running Chicago (except for Harold Washington), divested from & privatized public infrastructure at the expense marginalized communities.
For decades, Chicago cops tortured people into confessing to crimes they did not commit. Many of these cases were brought by States Attorney Richard Daley who would go on to be mayor. Notably, his father was the mayor who oversaw the cop riot at the 1968 democratic convention.
During Rahm Emanuel's tenure as Chicago's Mayor, he oversaw what was the largest public school closure in US history & closed half of the cities public mental health clinics. Additionally, there was a resurgence in police torture at Homan Square.
Chicago Democrats have been defunding essential public resources for decades & handing over more and more money to Chicago Police whose funding now accounts for nearly fifty percent of the cities budget.

All the while CPD has tortured, killed and abused Chicagoans.
Lori Lightfoot is continuing in the footsteps of every other Democrat, except Harold Washington, that has occupied the Mayor's office. Protect and increase police funding while divesting from or refusing to adequately fund essential public services.
What is truly alarming about Lightfoot is the speed at which Chicago Police practices have become even more draconian in her short tenure.
Lightfoot has also shown herself to be an incredibly stubborn politician that is more concerned with looking defeated than doing what's best for our city.

I am extremely worried that something truly unspeakable before she does anything to pull back CPD. https://twitter.com/soit_goes/status/1295048745617436672?s=20
