THREAD: I think an animated series is honestly the best medium for Batman.
Animated series are traditionally aimed towards children, but they can be enjoyed by adults. By aiming towards children, they often focus on moral lessons and often times end up making very good points about the mistreated in society, and this is especially true for B:TAS.
The biggest of these is that criminals, villains, and even supervillains are people too, worthy of empathy, dignity, and understanding. Did we see this with Bane in TDKR? Joker in TDK? Not to the extent we see in B:TAS with Baby Doll, Ventriloquist, Penguin, Two-Face, and more.
An animated series also does a nice job of demonstrating Batman's other skills. While films have numerous fight scenes scattered throughout, an episode of a series may have just one or two. The rest of Batman's journey instead hinges on the detective work he does.
This is one particular area where films seem to be rather lacking. Batman is the World's Greatest Detective, and the films often don't explore his clue-gathering, analysis, investigating, etc. B:TAS features extensive detective work, highlighting how he's more than just muscle.
Another area where the target audience being younger is an asset to the medium is the Joker. Joker works so much better when he's humorous, over-the-top, campy, and ridiculous, rather than some grimdark edgemaster who drones on about chaos theory or something.
This is also why I love Batman: The Brave and the Bold's Joker, as well as the classic Cesar Romero Joker. Completely ridiculous and fun.
