warning: i am not a qualified physician, this is all from reading and reasearching on my own and my experience. please be careful when it comes to your body and preferably see a nutritionist.
1. so, food restriction is extremely harmful to your body so consider this thread as damage control. iβm not pro-ana, i just wanna explain these concepts because i see lots of people struggling with them (esp younger people)
2. just for clarification:
fasting is consuming no calories for a certain period of time
low restriction is consuming 0-500 calories per day
high restriction is consuming 700-1000 calories per day
fasting is consuming no calories for a certain period of time
low restriction is consuming 0-500 calories per day
high restriction is consuming 700-1000 calories per day
3. when you start restricting your calories to an extreme amount your body thinks itβs being starved, and as an evolutionary adaptive skills it starts to slower the rate in which it burns fat because it doesnβt want to run out of fuel (fat) during a food shortage, because that-
4. means that YOU WILL DIE. so even if you restrict the same amount eventually you will start losing less. when your body gets used to the caloriec amount that you consume you will pleatue. your body will simply refuse to burn more fat and in this period of time you will
5. probably end up feeling tired, lethargic and irritated.
if you want to get rid of ONE lb of fat you have to be in a 3500 caloric defict, when you restrict your body does not only burn fat, but it also burns muscle, but hey ur still losing weight so who cares?

6. when you lose muscle mass you end up with a high body fat % and a lower muscle %, which is how you end up looking /skinny fat/ and most of us are not going for that look. this happens quite often when you fast too, fasting for longer than 48 hours is dangerous, i donβt care-
7. if youve done it before, or if people here do it often, keep your fasts shorter than 48 hours because after that your body starts burning muscle tissues in a faster rate, hence why you lose quickly when youβre fasting. for example, letβs assume you burn 1600 calories daily-
8. if you fast for one day, maybe the water retention in your body and the food weight went away so the first day you lost 1-2 pounds! all good, so far your caloriec deficit is only 1600 so maybe you burnt close to half a pound of actual fat, the second day goes by, youβre
9. tired and lethargic, now youβre in a 3200 caloric deficit, but the scale is telling you you lost another 2 pounds? the next day your caloric deficit is at 4800 but you lost WAY than 1.4 pounds? that weight that went away is probably mostly water weight n muscle mass, if you-
10. keep going it gets even more dangerous because you expose your body to electrolytes imbalance which could cause heart attacks AT any weight, and this is why you feel tired and faint. okay so, fasting bad low restriction bad, how is high restriction any better?
11. the truth is, high restriction is also bad, but when you high restrict you donβt lose as much muscle mass because your body isnβt freaking out as much, you can exercise (but you will NOT build muscle) and youβd feel physically better. and you wonβt end up fucking your-
12. metabolism as badly.
when you start low restricting and fasting your body will probably give up at some point and it will take over and youβll start binging and reactive eating! if you struggle from a restrictive ED your reactive eating has probably saved your-

13. life at some point.
how do you prevent binging? it migh be a little hypocritical coming from me because i still struggle with it, but here are things that will probably help you
β’ upping your intake, if your body is so starved it makes you reactive eat ...iβm sorry but-

15. you probably need the food. badly!! this seems counterintuitive, i just binged why would i up my intake NOW? after a binge your stomach gets bigger a bit and youβre hungry more often, so if you restrict low again you will probably give up to your hunger soon and you will end-
16. up in a binge cycle.
β’ high restriction in general. set ur limit to a higher number, eat nutrition-filled foods, i know most of you guys spend your calories on rice cakes and ice cream, consider eating more fruits n veggies

17. we all know that what weβre doing is harmful to our bodies, no matter how nicely you try to frame it, we all have a life threatening mental illness, please consider recovery and seeking help, my dms r always open if you need someone to talk to
someone linked me to this and it says that you donβt lose muscle mass on fasted days and it differs based on your bmi, but note that the experiment was done one people who consume normal calories on non-fasted days. please read the article if u hve time! https://www.dietdoctor.com/does-fasting-burn-muscle
