If your child is heading to college it is possible, given the number of cases in many areas in the US, and the ease of spread in congregate living situations, that they will become infected with SARS-CoV-2.

Many cases are mild.
Some of these institutions, despite planning, will have NO IDEA how to handle your child's COVID infection.

If you send your child out into this pandemic world, they need to be able to advocate for themselves and navigate what could be very challenging situations.
A positive test means your child must isolate for 10 days. They cannot go out unless they have to go to the doctor. No food runs, no classes, they don't leave the room.

Quarantine after an exposure to a positive case means exactly the same, but for 14 days.
Your child MUST isolate or quarantine WHERE THEY ARE.
Don't bring them home & risk infecting everyone along the way. You & your child should know the signs & symptoms, the quarantine & isolation guidelines for that county/state, institutional resources available & make a plan.
