I know being white gives me a lesser voice here but I’m concerned about the BLM rn. I’ve been grateful it’s finally getting the attn it deserves & don’t want to see it destabilized or baited by right extremist groups. It’s time to focus on getting out the vote early & broadly
Also, I’m concerned that the virus is going to get worse again & one of the largest areas of racism currently imo, is in black and under-served communities who are NOT getting the same protections against Covid19. We need to demand equal precautions and worker protections!
Several weeks ago I drove a Nigerian Amer friend to a dr’s appt. She is a widow & her insurance required her to drive 30 miles to a clinic in a low-income area. We arrived to a waiting room of over 80 people. Zero screening, no distance between seating.
The clinic was of course under staffed so we ultimately waited 3 hours in an over crowded room for a routine type of dr appt. Also since there was zero screening, people with obvious CV19 symptoms were staggering in & mixing with everyone else!
This isn’t the way it’s done in higher income communities. There is screening, limited ppl allowed in waiting rooms, no ridiculously long waits. In hindsight we should’ve asked to wait in our car and be texted. I see why death rates in these communities is high. This is NOT ok!
I think getting out the vote & helping these communities acquire equal access to Covid19 virus precautions & protections should be areas of focus. I know the CV19 hotspots in my state are these communities while other (white) areas go on w/ their (masked) lives.Time to WAKE UP!
