I am not a preacher. But I feel compelled to say a few things this morning. Let me start here. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/08/15/eviction-coronavirus-houston/?arc404=true
So many people are struggling right now, and it is only going to get worse. IDK how this can continue. Tusdae Barr's story is replicating at an alarming rate all over this country now because of the virus.
I fear for the families and children who will be out in the streets before November. IDK how we can continue in this supposedly "christian Nation" (my arse) allowing poverty like this to continue. People who had jobs in February, holding it together barely will now be homeless
This time requires something more from us. We have to think about the ways in which this virus is hurting us not just physically, but economically. Going back to work when there are no jobs to go back to because our current govt didn't have a plan is not the answer.
Churches and non profits can not sustain caring for the 100's of thousands of people who are going to need help. It's going to take a massive program to get the nation back on its feet. We are on our knees right now. Even if you have a roof, job and food right now...
The upcoming tragedy of thousands of people looking for food and shelter are going to envelop us the rest of this year, into 2021 and beyond We don't need platitudes. We need strategies and programs. People need help. Many are in despair.
I'm going to say something sacrilegious on this sunday... if you tithe, give offerings, etc and even if you don't, consider giving some of that to a food bank or other org, and start leaning on the DNC and your elected representatives about this.
If you know people who are hurting and about to lose homes, etc, amplify and help them out. Start local. Share venmo's and cash apps.
I read that article and thought shit, that could be me. Tusdae is a sister I could be friends with. 3k was all she needed, and she couldn't even get that. Breaks my heart. Folks want to work. And these horrible senators won't even vote to give folks extra unemployment.
Get yourself together to vote these amoral venal men and women out of office folks. If this nation is to survive, we have to not only vote but to protest and amplify how much this nation is on the skids. There is nothing great about America as long as this regime is in office.
Also, if you want suggestions to donate/suggest places to donate, please send them to me and I will amplify. In Philadelphia, Philabundance and Project home are two places to start https://www.projecthome.org/covid-19-support
