Ok. I watched it all. I downloaded it and watched it slow motion. This is not an attitude problem of the horse. I'm comfortable betting cash money that this rider was taught low, wide hands and chase. A thread. https://twitter.com/sammyoliverrr/status/1294780999612665856
This horse bucks predictably every single time. I don't know exactly why she refuses here. Could be pain/discomfort. But she bucks and kicks at the whip or anticipation of the whip & harsh hands. The rider's go-to is smack, pull & haul.
This rider is shutting down and punishing every single movement this horse makes. Watch the clip above. Horse stops, she smacks the horse. Horse steps forward, gets the whole rider's weight on her face. She's is literally shutting every single open door
this horse is trying to take. The jump is not an option anymore. Stop refusing to let her walk away. It is a wall. The only direction this horse has to go is UP aka buck. UP is the only direction she gets even ½ a second of release from pressure even if it's uncomfortable.
And here, for some reason, she has decided to cowboy the jump. Hard seat, legs forward to a point she can't lift up out of the saddle if she wanted to, one handed & smacks the horse in pic 1 with the whip despite the horse boosting to jump. So predictably: pic 2 & more wide hands
It's really easy to see slowed down. She smacks the horse, the horse refuses, she fights the horse and punishes/shuts down every forward step the horse tries to take. She brings her arm wide and back to smack again, thus pulling on the rein and whaddyaknow, more UP.
And again with the wide low hands!! This is directly contradictory to the motion she wants from the horse. The horse has to jump two obstacles. The jump and the pressure. Riding with wide & low hands is even worse than side reins.
And this is just gross. I saw absolutely no reason to literally drop her whole weight into the horse's mouth and tear on her. And do it AGAIN while the horse is HAULTED. Is she anticipating a spook? Idk because she's reacting to a horse she isn't riding.
So if this rider sees my thread.... I'm sorry that your flaws are shown to you harshly and bluntly. But this is completely unacceptable.
If you doesn't have an instructor, get one.
If you do have an instructor, fire them. Get a new one.
If you have a TRAINER & are NOT
being instructed, fire them.

Get a trainer AND instructor.

This pair needs an intervention. This is not mare attitude. This is defensive and aggressive riding.
And for the love of GOD.
DO. YOUR. FLATWORK.
Ride w a dressage instructor. Take a break from show jumping. Because I guarantee right now the excuse is the mare has an attitude. When more horses respond the same what will the new excuse be before it's realized she needs to change?
