We need to have a discussion about reviews and the way authors behave towards bloggers because I’ve seen multiple things like this happen since debuting and the situation is completely out of control. https://twitter.com/madisinha/status/1294998059181645826
1. Bloggers are not your personal marketing team. They are doing this for free using their own time. We should be grateful to be featured at all.

2. Because they’re not your marketing team, they have no obligation to leave positive reviews. Just HONEST ones.
3. Even the most popular bloggers are ten thousand times more vulnerable than most authors. The only thing they have to protect them is their platform, we have our agents, publishers AND fans behind us AND a platform if we have one. It may feel like they’re holding your future-
-in their hands (and that may feel like they have all the power) but in reality it would be absolutely disgusting & predatory to lash out at a blogger publicly.

4. Giving a copy of your book doesn’t a good review. It’s controversial to admit but I actually read ALL my reviews
-if you’ve written about me online in any way I have read it. I also give out my work way more often than I probably should. So I know: several people who received content from me directly didn’t like it and wrote really long scathing reviews. But that’s okay!!! Honesty is good!
Without honesty, it’s difficult to grow and learn what ways you can improve! It can also works as marketing for people who want to read the exact things that blogger hated!

5. Bloggers don’t owe us anything. They’re already dedicating their time and manpower for free.
They are our allies, not our servants. They’re doing us a favor, not completing a comission. They’re a vital part of the early publishing process & they’re under appreciated to begin with.

Agents, please talk to your debut authors abt how to handle bloggers bc I’m sad abt this.
