I haven’t had an opportunity to rave about my favorite graphic novel in a bit. I re-read Rice Boy at least once a year. I love absolutely everything about it - the characters, the story, the colors, and nothing beats Evan’s way of designing the vast array of creatures and people.

A few of my favorite panels/pages. Everything about TOE and his arc is extremely captivating, and Huff is my favorite side character. Rice Boy is a reluctant Frodo Baggins/Jesus Christ type and if that doesn’t at least intrigue you I can’t help you.

I found Rice Boy in high school and it completely changed the way I think about story telling and comics. Evan’s use of simple shapes that can convey such big concepts is what keeps me pulling this book off the shelf so often.
