book bloggers do an insane amount of work for this community & they do it for free. authors are incredibly lucky to have their support but we also need to. remember there’s a power imbalance here. if two sentences of a review are going to set you off, maybe...stay off goodreads?
also like? just bc your book isn’t someone’s cup of tea & they review does not mean other people will be put off. i’ve literally read “negative” reviews that are like “i did not like this book bc it has x, y, & z” and i’m like I LOVE X, Y, & Z *buys*
every single one of my favorite reads in the last few years i found bc of the tireless work of book bloggers. RADIUM GIRLS, EVELYN HUGO, TIME WAR, POPPY WAR, STARFISH, all of them found bc of bloggers putting countless unpaid hours into lifting up books they love.
publishing literally depends on the free word of mouth & tireless work done by book bloggers / booktube / booktok / etc. and yet it seems like every few months this happens. authors aren’t entitled to good reviews. we’re not entitled to any support at all lol.
at best authors should know & see & appreciate this. & not everyone will! that’s fine! if you can’t handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen, etc.

what isn’t fine is actively trying to harm an unpaid blogger because you thought they were being mean lol
