When we began our efforts to reopen the University, we emphasized the importance of being agile, flexible & responsive.

We received feedback & questions this past week & want to clarify & share information on expanding testing & surveillance testing: https://go.nd.edu/876640
The University Testing Center at Notre Dame Stadium is using PCR tests with a turnaround time of 1-2 days and we expect this to continue going forward.
We have a deep inventory of both rapid antigen and PCR test kits.

Processing tests from Notre Dame is not hindering the timely processing of tests for the larger St. Joseph County community.
Testing on campus is being expanded based on an updated Daily Health Check.

Starting Monday you will receive a GREEN, YELLOW or RED pass after completing your health check.
Students who indicate they are exhibiting a fever >100.4, shortness of breath, or loss of sense of taste and smell will receive a RED PASS A.

The student will automatically be scheduled for testing at the Stadium without the need for a telehealth consultation.
Students with a RED PASS A will receive a rapid antigen test. If it is positive they will go directly into isolation.

If it is negative they will receive a follow-up PCR test during that same visit and go into quarantine until that test has resulted.
Students who indicate they may have been in direct, sustained contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days will receive a RED PASS B.

The student will also be automatically scheduled for testing at the Stadium.
Students with a RED PASS B will receive a rapid antigen test as a precautionary measure, but will not need to isolate unless the test result comes back positive.
Faculty and Staff who receive a RED PASS should contact the Wellness Center or a private healthcare provider for clinical assessment.

They can be tested at the Stadium or elsewhere but should quarantine at home until results are received and they are cleared to return to work.
Students will receive a YELLOW PASS if they indicate they are exhibiting secondary symptoms.
On the first day of secondary symptoms students should monitor the symptoms but immediate testing is not warranted.

If a student prefers to be tested, they can call UHS or the Wellness Center to be scheduled for an antigen test as a precautionary measure.
Students with secondary symptoms for 2 or more days should call UHS to be scheduled for testing. If an antigen test is positive, they will go into immediate isolation.

A negative antigen test results in a PCR test and quarantine.
Faculty and Staff will receive a YELLOW PASS if they exhibit secondary symptoms. They should stay home and monitor symptoms, though they may report to work if the symptoms checked are mild and of known origin.
If a faculty or staff member’s symptoms worsen or persist for two or more consecutive days or if they would like to discuss the symptoms they can contact the Wellness Center or their private healthcare provider and can be tested at the stadium site per clinical recommendation.
A GREEN PASS is received by students, faculty and staff who do not exhibit any symptoms and have not been in close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID.

No testing is required.
If you test positive at a site outside of the University, please let us know and we will include you in Notre Dame contact tracing.

Anyone can directly provide us with a copy of the results from a COVID-19 test taken elsewhere.
Those identified as close contacts through the contact tracing program will be required to quarantine at home (for off-campus students, faculty and staff) or in Notre Dame quarantine facilities (for on-campus students).
A test will be administered to those in quarantine on Day 4. If the test is positive they will move into isolation.

If negative they will continue to quarantine and test again on Day 7. If this test is positive they will isolate, if negative they are released from quarantine.
Tests are not administered immediately to those identified as close contacts because they are unlikely to reveal anything because of the time required to build a detectable viral load.
We have been working on developing a surveillance testing plan in consultation with and endorsed by the St. Joseph County Health Department.

Beginning this week we will use a statistical sampling approach.
If you are selected to participate in surveillance testing, you are obligated to make yourself available for testing.

Anyone found to be positive through our surveillance testing will enter our isolation protocols, and begin the contact tracing process.
We are also building the capacity to do saliva-based pooled surveillance testing.

When this capacity comes online, we will test wide swaths of the campus community as a supplement to our initial surveillance testing approach.
We should all be exercising every precaution to remain safe.
