Little fired up this morning, because I have ZERO patience for “scientific activism.” Anyone can see in my timeline I have both condemned and celebrated #DezNat. I will admit, I am conflicted. I think much good happens within the hashtag and much to be condemned. I don’t agree 1/
with some who believe it’s good enough to simply “not agree with everyone who uses the hashtag.” Because what prevents you from condemning bad behavior? Some posts are truly backwards.

Having said that, this latest “study” by Spencer P. Greenhalgh & Amy Chapman is the epitome 2/
of activism guised as scientific discovery. Dr Chapman, who has a PhD in “Educational Psychology & Educational Technology” is a self-proclaimed Catholic minister in her LinkedIn page. No surprise, Dr Spencer has the same degree from the same school, but also got his BA from BYU3/
which explains some of the interest perhaps. I have 3 advanced degrees in Psychology and I must admit, I’d never heard of those as a specialty. Putting aside credentials, I believe bias is certainly at play here and fail to see expertise, but the real harm is how they present 4/
their findings.
Let’s talk about the problematic nature of this “research.” I have studied psychology for 20+ years, this video presented... quite simply is political hogwash. These two “researchers” make VERY LITTLE mention of their methodology, their control, the way they 5/
accounted for an accurate representation. Worse, they don’t even publish or link to their study or the results. They did indicate sampling 1.3K tweets during Apr3-9 of 2019. So you are basing this very serious allegation on 1 week of qualitative analysis? Uh... what? Second... 6/
a psych 101 student can properly explain the difference between similarity and true causation/overlap. You two found a couple tweets in a thousand (make no mention of followers, likes, or retweets) and draw a conclusion that because one moron made a post, that an entire group 7/
of people share these sentiments? This is research malpractice. You two charlatans should be ashamed of yourselves. Any moron can type anything on the internet, doesn’t mean everyone they are linked to shares that opinion. This “comparison” doesn’t even have a definition other 8/
than the one YOU MADE UP. What qualifies as “alt-right discourse?” You never defined it, you just make opinions throughout cited as fact and don’t trouble yourself with even JUSTIFYING why/when/or how you define the results. I could literally dive into any 1K tweets with any 9/
hashtag/phrase and make a comparison to anything sinister and find similarity. Point: A lot of crap exists on Twitter. It’s hardly reflective of an entire community of people just because you found 5-6 stupid tweets. This is bogus research. These people give TRUE science 10/
and research a bad name. This is why we have morons throwing around articles they don’t even question or read how the research was conducted or results achieved and present them as fact. It has a title that I like and aligns to my political ideology so it MUST BE TRUE! No, it 11/
isn’t true. These people are subject to political bias. They have a belief and they searched for a narrative and found it. Self-fulfilling prophesy. As I said, I’m hardly die-hard but even I am blocked by Dr Chapman. Apparently she’s so interested in disparaging a group she 12/
doesn’t even need to hear what they actually say. I am so sick of these hacks who have a motive, use their PhD (I have one too but I don’t allow my personal views spill over into my reeearch and INTENTIONALLY distance myself from topics I know I have personal bias) as a way 13/
to present their own viewpoints under the guise of academic discovery. This is why we have people flooding towards homeschool. This is why a college degree is becoming less and less valuable. These types of studies SICKEN me. They are both a disgrace. Publish your results 14/
you hacks before making a video. Why didn’t you? I looked for your article. It’s because you can’t probably and even if you find a peer reviewed journal dumb enough to publish it, you’ll have released a bias trope of ignorance that only supports the narrative you wanted 15/
So even though even I have had my hesitations, this GARBAGE makes me want to say to “Drs” Chapman and Spencer:
#DezNat #DezNat #DezNat you flaccid, weak, politically-biased, ethically-dualistic thinking FRAUDS!!
