Dear Blue Jays players, fans & Toronto sports media,
Please stop using the term âhomelessâ to refer to the Jaysâ current home stadium situation. Homelessness already has enough stigma & harmful stereotypes, it doesnât need a bird wearing worn out clothing as a mascot. Contâd

Right now Canadians & Americans are being evicted just for existing during a pandemic leaving millions with insecure housing arrangements. Toronto has politicians & influential people protesting a temporary shelter being built in their neighbourhood. There is a housing crisis...
It is real & it is harmful. The Blue Jays have a home stadium in Buffalo with many local staff working. The community has accepted the risks of teams flying in & out of their home city. So please stop wearing those terrible tshirts & stop calling the team âhomelessâ
If youâve done this unaware of the implications then you can start to make amends by donating to charities that provide shelter & support. These are in Toronto: @The519 @nelliesshelter @parkdalefoodbnk one in Buffalo: http://compasshouse.org
And a reminder that ensuring people are housed & fed shouldnât be left up to the âkindness of strangers.â Secure housing & food sources should be provided through public social infrastructure to everyone who needs it. /end
