I am going to make this thread as a piece of self reflection and to thank a comrade for educating me when I misrepresented the conditions in their country but also as an illustration of the power of propaganda to build international solidarity for institutions on false pretenses.

While it is true that New People’s Army Of the CPP is currently at war with Duerte it is not true that that they were for his whole administration, in fact the story is a lot more complicated than that.
Before going into that I will explain what gave me a positive impression of the group in the first place though because I think it is worthwhile to illustrate the developing nuances
The first expsosure I had to the party was in the context of gay marriage (which they preform) and trans acceptance I saw this as a really beautiful exception to the common dogma of bourgeois degeneracy still present in many communist parties: https://outragemag.com/communist-party-philippines-recognizes-lgbt-rights-welfare/
The other context that really made me see them positively as a revolutionary force was their opposition to contemporary Chinese imperialism in the Philippines and elsewhere (remember this is a Maoist party): https://international.thenewslens.com/article/117999
