Morning all!

As it’s my last day on the account, I thought I’d share some of the stories I’ve covered in the last sixth months.

It’s certainly been a baptism of fire, starting at FG two weeks before Covid-19 hit, with plenty to write about. 📝🦠
At the end of March, lamb prices crashed as the supply chain succumbed to Covid-19.

Drop in food-service sales, potential loss of consumer income and an end to gatherings contributed to ample supplies available and downward pressures on prices. https://bit.ly/31RNbxI
Red meat was one of the most exposed to the changing eating habits brought about by Covid-19.

Fearing carcase imbalance and with recessionary buying behaviours surfacing, industry called on retailers to promote high value cuts of meats. https://bit.ly/2E4bX5F
Abattoirs and processing plants faced reduced staffing pressures and the slow-down of production lines.

After several Covid-19 outbreaks at plants, Defra Secretary Eustice admitted Government was slow to issue initial guidance. https://bit.ly/3kLU1NU
Following mounting industry pressure for Gov intervention, the Dairy Response Fund was announced in May.

But it’s eligibility criteria was criticised by industry leaders, and saw poor uptake from farmers.

The deadline has been extended to September 11. https://bit.ly/3iPSGDN
Non-bovine milk producers also saw their supply chains devestated by Covid-19, with processors cancelling orders due to the lack of outlets.

Disappointed the sector was not included in the Dairy Response Fund, industry continues to lobby for support. https://bit.ly/3iI0Yhd
In response to the wool price collapse, farmers opted for disposable methods, burning and composting fleeces, to help offset further costs such as wool handling and haulage.

There is also a petition for Gov to use wool in its home insulation scheme. https://bit.ly/2PVQheH
Hopefully that has given you a quick oversight into the impacts Covid-19 had had on some of the farming sectors in the last six months.

I’ll share some non-Covid content with you all later once you’ve had a chance to digest the above! 📝
