The uterus is the structure immediately after cervix.
It branches off into 2 horns ; which are termed the Right Horn of the uterus & the Left Horn of the uterus.

The dividing line between the 2 horns of the uterus is called the Septum & one has to watch out that they don't push the lnsemination pipette/syringe beyond 1cm after the 3rd ring of the Cervix because the lnseminator doesn't know which ovary is releasing the oocyte or egg.

At the end of each uterine horn is a valve called the lsthmus which opens up to the Fallopian tube or Oviduct.
The lsthmus only opens up when an egg is raptured to allow for semen to move up the Oviduct for fertilisation.

The Fallopian tube or Oviduct is connected to the ovary where thousands of follicles ( eggs) or ova have the potential to grow & ripen & get released every 21-24 days which gives the cow's cycle.

Depending on the animal's cycle, the ovary may have an actively growing follicle/egg if she's not pregnant. In case of pregnancy there will be an actively growing corpus luteum to support the pregnancy.

The ovary produces hormones which directly control the animal's status within the 21 day cycle. The ovaries work together with the pituitary gland which is found at the base of the brain on the hypothalamus

Diestrous Phase
If the cow is healthy, with a good body condition score & is not exposed 2 too many stress factors & is not pregnant, her uterus will produce the hormone Prostaglandin (F2a) which cancels the activity of Progesterone (P4), the hormone which supports pregnancy

The progesterone hormone is produced by the corpus luteum (Yellow Body) on the ovary. Once the corpus luteum starts to regress & the progesterone hormone levels go down, the Hypothalamus releases Gonadotrophin Releasing Hormone (GnRH)................

This corpus luteum produces the hormone progesterone which maintains pregnancy if the cow was inseminated & did actually conceive.
If she did not conceive, the uterus will produce prostaglandin hormone around day 12 of the cycle.

This Prostaglandin will cancel the action of the Progesterone then the Corpus Luteum regresses and the 21 day cycle starts again; developing to Day 1 as the Graafian Follicle ruptures
