Rant: A university degree isn’t meant to be the ‘I’ve completed my education’ tickbox. It encourages & gives life-long learning skills. That’s the point. Some courses have a direct career path, others have transferable routes. Much like anything in life, it’s what you make of it.
University isn’t for everyone. But, everyone deserves a shot. Trying to compare what subjects or courses are better, is trying to decide what we need as a society. Here’s a hint, we’re reliant on the Arts & Humanities just as much as STEM. True innovation comes from creativity.
Until we decide what metrics we are using to define ’value’, the suggestion of low-value courses not only undermines the core principle of education, but also impacts on the individuals who have invested their time & energy into developing their craft. Money isn't the only ROI.
