ON THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATING FELLOW FANS

My personal observation is that anime/manga fans stay in the fandom on average 2-3 years. That's long and short.
Long enough to consume a lot of content, get familiar with tropes, get bored of them and leave. Get to know few takes from industry (low pay, etc) and complain. 2/18

And to short to not know how their actions influence industry.Consuming illegally:
-Gives no feedback to content creators on what's desired.
-Viewers(your) eyeballs are making money to exploiting part of pirate community who
-has NO MEANS of and doesn't want to send money to JP.3

4. how viewers voice has no power with decision makers BECAUSE they are not financially contributing
It's a numbers game. Licencor can bring a title popular on illegal sites, but will it cover costs and bring some profit? 4/18

Licencors don't get to see even a fraction of the big numbers on illegal sites(books/videos are not music!). Also illegally available content in ani/manga industry isn't needed anymore. Why do you think licenses are happening ultra fast these days? 5/18
Buying customers have spoken, companies know what'll sell to at least cover the costs.
To bring anything else, more people need to consume legally. This is how companies get extra funds for experiments and how they can build a following for that content with time too. 6/

But that's not happening because consuming legal content is not normalized yet. Community is still dragging on the mentality of 25 years ago when a lot was different and now that doesn't make sense anymore. It's even worse, people feel entitled to consume for free. 7/
This kind of behavior contributes to centralization and less diverse content. Because only certain type of content gets to sell/bring in money. Don't complain how everything is the same when your (lack of) action contributed to this. 8/
There's a lot more to this, those in the industry and informed fans know what I'm talking about. I firmly believe it is our duty to educate people where we can. Especially the industry because industry kept quite about this topic for far to long despite loyal fans asking. 9/
The same goes for event committees (why did fansubbers get huge platforms at events? What stance was made then? And why is this not discussed today?)
I'm not calling for condemnation, I'm calling for open conversation. Staying silent is what brought us here today. 10/

ANN just published an article about KissAnime being shut down. With no actual commentary or context given. They only added recent activities in Japan against pricey.
This in no way educates readers. It's not even particularly informing! Why the silence?! This'll increase ...↓

...people saying that KissAnime and other illegal aggregator websites are valuable archives&co.
They are not. They have no legal ground for preserving content to begin with. And they have no standard they're upholding for any of their content to be even called an archive. 12

Libraries on the other hand are. What has your nation decided regarding preserving content that is available in your language is on you, your government and demands you have as a nation.

... has to be send in at least 2 copies to the National Library. Every publisher is obliged to do this 𝐛𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐰.
The National Library has internal rules how to digitize and preserve, in various locations. At standards far beyond any scanlaitors quality. 14/

I'm not familiar with procedure for video content so I can't comment on that.
All this content is available to members of any library in the country. And thus content that publisher long have the rights to distribute anymore can still be found in libraries. 15/18

If this can or is implemented in outer countries I don't know, but I know that something that is not backed by established institution can never great an archive that'll actually last. 16/18
It's a vicious circle.
Lack of knowledge how fans/my actions influence industry (community+creators+distributors/licencors), paid part of industry not engaging in conversation, and lack of knowledge in many other areas are contributing to a delay in improving industry. 17/18

Don't shame or ridicule people who lack knowledge. You don't know their situation. Make it your responsibility to at least show where they can get more accurate info. Beyond that it's their responsibility and up to their own desire if they want to educate themselves or not. 18/18
P.S.: Not sure if the above even makes any sense, but I had to take it off of my chest.
And yeah I'm writing under assumption I do have informed followers.
