What I don’t get about this whole exams debacle @ofqual @GavinWilliamson is why a really simple check, like comparing the grade produced by the algorithm to the CAG wasn’t made (anyone with a slightly above average knowledge of Excel could do thisx including me).

The manual checking done - by asking for evidence to back up the CAG and staffed by the army of examiners who were made redundant by the cancellation of exams - on extreme outliers over the last two to three months. The fact this wasn’t done stinks of complacency and laziness.

Promising appeals by 7th September was also foolhardy - there will be a literal avalanche of them (anyone could have seen that coming) and administering that and standard of the process, let alone carrying it out in that time frame, was surely impossible.
