In 2008, E & Y came up with the Dhoni Effect to describe a phenomenon which showed that small town India was where new economic growth would come from. And these were the new hotspots of aspiration & affluence. And that's what MSD embodied too- the rise of the small town.
In 2010, I had worked on a ten part series which correlated eras in India's political & economic development to cricketing eras. So there was the Dhoni effect of course. Coincidentally the 90s which had match-fixing also had huge stock market scams. Was an interesting exercise.
It was a bit like doing a Maggi version of Ram Guha's books, lot of brain work. The series didn't get made finally cos after it was scripted, the channel realized cricket footage costs a lot of money. Like duh
