A thread about NYC+eventually leaving: Had an interesting day on Twitter. Happened to answer a tweet from @Yoder_Esqq who I had never interacted w/before yesterday. I was talking about leaving the NYC area and moving. 1/
/First of all, I was overwhelmed by the mostly kind and welcoming responses; especially when I mentioned relocating to Northern FL. I spent a lot of time in the Jax Beaches area in the 90’s and always loved it. Have a friend from that era that now lives in St. Augustine.
/Like I said, most responses were great. A few people trying to be snarky: “Don’t bring your blue votes/ways/ideas to my red town.” Trust me: New Yorkers can do snarky. So please stop trying. Also: WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU THINK I’M A LIBERAL WHEN I’M DESPERATE TO LEAVE HERE?! 😳
/If you’ve never been to NYC, you can’t possibly know that not all of us think that way. I have never voted for @NYCMayor nor would I; he deserves nothing more than my contempt. If you’re a new follower, you probably don’t know that I was in The City on 9/11 and survived.
/I still consider @RudyGiuliani the best Mayor our City ever had. And it actually breaks my heart to think about leaving #NYC. I’m a Native NYer and have never lived anywhere else in my entire life. I’ll soon be 50 years old. A huge move is actually quite scary.
/However I am no longer interested in paying outrageous taxes for schools that aren’t great, I am starting to really dislike snow, I AM SICK AND TIRED OF MY HUSBAND BEING ABUSED AT WORK BY THE LEFT-WING MOBS THAT ARE NOW RIPPING MY CITY APART...and I feel that God is opening...
/...a new door. We went and checked out NC, and although we loved it, we felt it was more of a vacation spot than a forever home. We’re going to start looking in FL this Fall. The sad thing is that we can’t leave right away. We may have to wait a few years until my husband...
/...retires. Of course if the anti-police rhetoric keeps pushing the agenda, perhaps we’ll end up in a buyout situation. That would be FINE BY ME. Right now there’s not much to stay for; my City is in ruins. 💔
/I went to see my brother tonight in Hoboken NJ. For those of you who don’t know, it’s directly across the Hudson from #NYC. He’s leaving in a couple of weeks to move to SC. I’m thrilled for him although I’ll miss him terribly. I’m happy to see him pursuing a new life.
/This was the Manhattan skyline tonight from the Jersey side.
/I hate this building. It’s One World Trade for those of you who don’t recognize it. I hate it b/c it reminds me of all we’ve lost here in NYC.
/And I’m of course feeling bereft all over again. There’s so much to love about My City, but not now...and probably not for a long time coming. There’s no freedom here right now. Our Gov @NYGovCuomo is so obsessed w/people wearing a mask he could care less about what...
/... @NYCMayor is doing to completely undo all the progress we made in the years past. Right now there’s no Broadway; there’s baseball, but without fans...it’s heartbreaking to live here right now, in this moment in time.
/So I will look around for the right place for my family to go; a place where we can find other people who share our vision. Until then: keep us in prayer. We need it. My whole City needs it. And my shattered heart thanks you in advance. //Fin
