From today, the 75th Anniversary of #VJ Day until the official surrender aboard the @USNavy’s USS MO, we will recount the actions of the Army in the Pacific during #WWII. It will be a tribute to our past & reveal how our past is still relevant & shapes how we operate.

Our goal: Convey the size, scope & scale of the @USArmy role in the Pacific Theater, a region dominated by ocean, that many associate with the unprecedented air and sea battles, but airplanes need to land, ships need to port and securing land is what we do best #WWII75

No disrespect to our sister service @USMC their specialty is to move the fight from sea to land, and the Devil Dogs are experts, but when that fight needs to be done on a massive scale; the #USArmy gets the call, often it was side-by-side with the Marines #WWII75

Did you know?
During #WWII the @USArmy deployed 5 times as many troops to the Pacific than the Marines. 20 of the 80 Army Divisions that participated in WWII were in the Pacific.

The fight wasn’t done alone, it took @USMC @USNavy & @usairforce The geography of the region & the island hopping strategy called for a joint fight. Today is no different, as our motto states #OneTeam is how we view our joint partners @INDOPACOM #WWII75 #Lethality

The team was more than #joint, it extended to our allies & partners; relationships established in the region long before the conflict began. Those #partnerships #alliances & the ability of indigenous forces were integral to our success in the Pacific. #WWII75

Strengthening our partnerships and alliances and continuing to improve our ability to operate as a combined team continues to be an essential element to the USARPAC mission of maintaining a #FreeandOpenIndoPacific #WWII75

This is not a story about countries or organizations. It’s about the people. We will highlight some of the countless acts valor from battles fought in unforgiving terrain, against a formidable & tenacious adversary all to achieve a #FreeAndOpenIndoPacific #WWII75

Lessons and advances in doctrine and warfare were gained during the Pacific campaign; much still rings true today. Building relationships and partner capacity, joint and multi-national interoperability, strategic readiness, are all still vital to USARPAC today #WWII75
