The Oversight Committee should move it’s hearing with Trump donor and USPS head Louis DeJoy from 9/17 to next week. It’s important to note two issues: (1) holding hearings take logistical and investigative work; (2) the DNC will understandably take media and member attention. 1/
If the hearing get moved to Friday, which allows the Committee to do more fact finding and not let the DeJoy hearing get swallowed up in the DNC media frenzy. The committee has a 7 day notice requirement for hearings but deviating is hardly unprecedented. 2/
What fact gathering needs to be done? Here are a few things that could have been done over the next 6 weeks but could potentially be squeezed into Mon-Thurs by staff: a briefing from former Postmaster General Brennan and former Deputy PMG Stroman; 3/ https://federalnewsnetwork.com/agency-oversight/2020/05/usps-board-set-to-lose-quorum-as-deputy-postmaster-general-resigns/

A demand for a briefing and records from the Department of Treasury about Secretary Mnuchin’s role in pressuring USPS governors to select DeJoy and regarding its funding. Mnuchin’s interference reportedly played a role in Williams’ resignation. 5/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/06/15/trump-postal-service-dejoy/
Transcribed interviews with as many of the USPS Governors as possible, to understand the selection process of DeJoy, and their oversight of his decisions since. Governors make at least $30K per year on top of their day jobs. We need to hear from them. 6/ https://about.usps.com/who/leadership/board-governors/

Putting together a DeJoy hearing on short notice won’t be easy. Especially if Republicans boycott and the Trump administration obstructs. But DeJoy’s actions make it necessary. I worked on the Committee for 4.5 years. I’ve seen it done. It can be done. It should be done. END
