Here are the issues the #WhiteSox have and why this team is in trouble moving forward:

Operations:
1) Jerry Reinsdorf. Biggest impediment to the success and sustainability of a sports franchise. Always thinks with his checkbook and not his brain. Won’t spend. Too loyal.
2) Power dynamics. Agents should never be negotiating directly with ownership on massive deals if the Sox are historically cheap. It’s bad business. Hahn has been boxed in with a glass ceiling on pitching and has been left out to dry by an owner who doesn’t care about his team.
3) Rick Hahn & Kenny Williams’ roles. What are they exactly? Hahn is the GM but is Kenny above him? Is KW merely a figure head? Who makes personnel decisions? Why were they so blindsided by Machado’s decision? Were they lied to and misled?
4) Development & Drafting players. This is where teams like the Rays and A’s thrive and the Sox are an irrelevant mid-market team in the 3rd biggest city in the United States. Late to the game in analytical application. Late on high speed camera usage. Huge 1st round misses...
4 cont.) Have to select college ready bats because they are afraid of taking a raw HS player they will have to actually work with. Kelenic over Madrigal... Fulmer over Buehler... And this was the guy running the show for our amateur scouting... I mean Jesus Christ.
5) Coaching. Rick Renteria is the worst manager in MLB and it is frankly not close. Lineup construction = disaster. Loyalty to Jose Abreu who openly defied another vet on the team who has an actual winning pedigree. Pinch-hitting and game management = non-existent....
5 cont.) Breaks up the Giolito & McCann connection. Doesn’t defend his guys from bad umpiring. Gives lackadaisical responses on his teams struggles. No urgency from him whatsoever. The bunting... the benching... if he couldn’t speak a second language, he would offer nothing.
5 cont.) Leaves his pitchers in the game too long. Has horrible defensive alignments. Is not creative in his strategy of the game or lineup. Takes hot pitcher out of spots because of righty/lefty matchups (YAWN).
6) Don Cooper. I have never seen a guy live off of one team more in my life. He still references Mark Buehrle to his guys’ now. Didn’t develop Giolito. Regression from Reynaldo Lopez. Keuchel couldn’t name one thing he has taught him. Disregards modern analytics.
7) Nick Capra. If this guy is waving you around 3rd, just top there. You’ll be out at home.
8) Groundballs & Plan at the Plate. There appears to be 2-3 guys in the lineup who have a plan each AB. The most free-swinging bunch of ground ball slappers I have ever seen. I mean how many more times do I have to watch Jose Abreu reach and slap a ground ball to shortstop?
9) Moving forward. The Sox have to address RF. Mazara has been a trainwreck. Lazy and doesn’t hustle on defense. No power. Groundball machine. Only thing positive is he has been patient in his ABs. The Sox won’t spend here so expect Mazara back on a cheap deal.
9 cont.) Starting pitching. You have to get another guy. Another No. 2 type at minimum. Who knows what Kopech will be. Cease looks like he is progressing. Lopez is a pen guy. Dunning will be held down until the end of time. Kelley and Crochet are coming. Where do they fit in?
10) Overall. This team is limited in it’s potential. Not because of talent but because of leadership and lack of direction. Lack of killer instinct. Keuchel nailed it. This team shows up to play when they feel like it. They arent good enough to do that. I don’t see a WS coming..
10 cont.) any time soon (if ever). The core of Moncada, Robert, Jimenez, Vaughn, Giolito, Cease, Kopech, Madrigal, etc. is strong but it will never be subsidized by quality FA acquisitions, and strong personnel decision-making (front office or in the clubhouse). #WhiteSox
