PL: Due to COVID, our neighborhood has been working on ways to bring people together in a safe way. We did a bear hunt based off da book, βWeβre Going on a Bear Hunt.β Families placed bears in their windows fur kids to find on walks. (3/18)
But we felt there was more to do, especially with da disruptions in da school schedule. Several neighbors tried to think of ways to make sure kiddos had access to books when da libraries closed. We decided dat a neighborhood sharing library would be great! (4/18)
PL: Furtunately, we have a neighbor who is very handy with woodworking!
Peyt: That's fantastic! Why did you feel this was an important project to become involved with?
PL: Momma has always wuved reading! When she was wittle she carried a bags of books instead of dolls. (5/18)

PL: She became a teacher & always encouraged her students to read & dis year she sponsored a 4th grader & bought dem books all year long. So when the opportunity arrived to help bring books to our neighborhood kiddos, we jumped at da chance! (6/18)
Peyt: What if any challenges did you face?
PL: Fur us, da biggest challenge was getting our neighborhood to approve us placing da library by da pool. Some neighborhoods like ours have a lot of restrictions, but our Homeowners Association finally approved it. (7/18)

Peyt: How has the library box been received by the community?
PL: Da neighborhood wuvs it! Families with or without kiddos (like ours) have donated books to it. Kiddos run to it all da time to pick out new books! It's been sweet to see kiddos eggcited to get new books! (8/18)

there could be a bit of a cost! Some formal lending libraries have to pay to be put on a lending library map. Just make sure you know da rules fur your area and neighborhood!
Peyt: What a wonderful thing you have done! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

PL: Peyton, thank you so much for having me here tonight! I'm grateful to be able to share how my neighborhood is coming together to help spread literacy & the joy of reading! (11/18)
What a wonderful talk tonight! This lead perfectly into our story which is about the ripple effect that one act of good can create! "The Curious Garden" by Peter Brown is an amazing storybook with amazing illustrations! (12/18)
Our story opens in a dreary city where we meet Liam, a curious and sweet boy! Liam liked being outside and decided one day to explore a railway that had stopped working years ago and that travelled above the city! (13/18)
Liam climbed a dark stairway to the top and when he reached the landing he discovered a few little plants growing but in need of care! Liam decided to try and help! He went back each day to tend to the plants and noticed they were spreading out and growing! (14/18)
Then winter came, but while Liam could not tend to his plants, he did buy books and gear so when spring rolled around he could be a better gardener! Winter had been tough on the plants but Liam was awesome at helping them grow! Soon they were spread across the whole city! (15/18)
It became surprising how this garden brought the people back outside to care and tend to all the new plants! And soon the whole city looked and felt different! But Liam's favorite part of the city wide garden was where it all started! (16/18)
What an amazing book! It has some wonderful full page illustrations and a note from the author! Stories can inspire! Penny Lane's talk also inspires us! Knowing about her talk tonight inspired me to find our community lending library and contribute a couple of new reads! (17/18)
