the British education system is essentially spending your formative years in highly restrictive systems, being forced to decide the narrow scope of your life at 16, and then minimising those ambitions even further if you didn't naturally excel at exams when you were 14
And once you make it to university - the first space that many people encounter people from different class backgrounds- any sort of awareness of this system and the inequalities embedded in it will be considered by the pundit/think-tank class as "cultural marxism"
all of which is to say that not only does British education encourage conformity, it actively punishes people (who aren't already advantaged) who are even remotely intellectually curious
