At the counter-rally in Stone Mountain today some people who came out weren't necessarily political, or they were young and new to politics... they just didn't want a Confederate militia in their town. And they heard about ongoing projects like eviction defense planning.
It goes to show how much leftism needs antifascism. Antifascism is how many learn about the left. And if it wasn't for antifascism, leftist projects would get ruined. Whenever fascists get a toehold, they attack these projects. They go after food distribution...
... they attack the homeless, they attack bookstores and try to burn them down, they assassinate leftists, etc. History is pretty clear on this. Whenever they can freely march around without getting their ass kicked, that's what happens.
And antiracism is inseparable from antifascism because fascists use racism to gain power. Look at what's going on in Brazil and Bolivia right now. That's essentially the direction these Confederate militia types in the US want to go.
Antiracism and antifascism should be default positions anyway, but sometimes white leftists get confused and need to remember it's in their best interests as well, over the long term.
