THREAD: Followers, you may recall when I raised the issue of Illinois needing to report COVID19 deaths by day of death. Good news: @btimpone obtained the DoD data via FOIA from IDPH. Bad news: state needs to change how it reports deaths to the public. Let’s take a look... 1/*
Here are C19 deaths as reported daily by IDPH. Officials hv said counts are provisional. Reminder: deaths reported on a day didn't occur the previous day, or even in same wk. I’ve also observed IDPH sometimes report a number on a day, and then adjusts up or down in same wk. 2/*
Now see the IL COVID deaths by day of death, thru 8/5. Predictably, the curve takes the shape of Cook County’s DoD curve. https://maps.cookcountyil.gov/medexamcovid19/  Also same shape as the C19 death curve…everywhere. 3/*
When we see the IDPH DoR & DoD data together, we see an earlier death peak, and the appearance of IDPH continuing to report a mix of older deaths & news deaths on the same day. Also see the highest number of deaths in a day was 128, not 191. Fewer actual 100+ deaths days too 4/*
Now here’s something odd. The data for deaths by day-of-report IDPH provided in response to the FOIA is DIFFERENT from deaths by day-of-report on IDPH's website. Why is IDPH showing one of set DOR deaths on its site, but keeping a diff set internally? 5/*
Note, too, that the DOR data IDPH gave @btimpone says no deaths were reported in the initial days in mid-March. Why? That makes no sense. 6/*
Here’s the DOR data IDPH gave @btimpone alongside the DOD they gave him. (See https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/548277631-illinois-daily-coronavirus-death-reports-vary-significantly-from-death-dates for the data obtained.) Am I right that this looks more favorable to IDPH? As though the reported more deaths to the public sooner than they actually did? 7/*
Sicne what’s on IDPH’s webist is what’s public, this is the graph I’m “going with” for now. IL's taxpayer-funded DPH needs to report daily WHEN these deaths they feed the press actually occurred. Should also say how many of the deaths they report each day are in LTCFs. 8/8 END
